Laser Pigmentation Treatment

What is Laser Pigmentation Treatment?

This treatment works to safely improve the appearance of skin that has been affected by pigmentation problems, which may be caused by damaged cells. The unhealthy tissue may result in the skin turning lighter (hypopigmentation) or darker(hyperpigmentation) and cause embarrassment, especially in visible areas.

At Kingston Laser & Aesthetics, we use the award-winning Candela GentlePRO Max Laser for the treatment of skin hyperpigmentation. It is worth noting that this procedure is suitable only for lighter skin types. This is because the laser treatment works with maximum efficiency in cases where there is an increased contrast between the pigmentation and the natural skin colour. The best results are achieved with darker pigmentation on lighter natural skin colour.

How does a Laser Pigmentation Treatment work?

Using the Alexandrite option on the Candela GentlePRO Max Laser, the light energy is focused directly on the area that is affected by pigmentation problems. The light is absorbed by the skin and the targeted treatment guarantees that the surrounding will not be damaged in the process. The laser causes the skin to heat up so that the pigmented area breaks down and can easily be removed, clearing and evening out the skin tone.

After the treatment, the shattered pigment will then rise up to the surface of the skin where it will eventually dry and flake off. It is important not to scratch or pick on the scab should it occur to prevent scarring. The pigmentation may also be flushed naturally out of the body through the lymphatic system.

What can you expect after the Laser Pigmentation Treatment?

Depending on the treated area, the laser pigmentation removal can be done in as short as 15 minutes. After the treatment, you may experience mild swelling, redness, irritation, or even flaking in the treated skin area. These side effects may last for a few days and may also be accompanied by discolouration.

Darkening, lightening, or even no visible pigmentation change may be experienced immediately after the treatment. The body takes an average of four to six weeks to eliminate the broken-down pigment. Depending on the case, more than one treatment session may be needed to achieve the desired results from the laser pigmentation removal.
